MySpace Trick To Drive Traffic To Your Site

E-mail
Sunday, 27 April 2008

MySpace has been used and abused for the last few years. It's a huge site which attracts huge spam. But I think it still has potential to bring traffic. I'll explain a simple trick that I used to drive new potential fans to my MySpace music profile so I could build a bigger fan base for my music.

At the time I figured this out, I wasn't into website building, marketing and the whole nine. But if you do it right, you could drive traffic to your website, get more referrals, and etc. I'm not sure if they've cracked down on this or not as I think I am maybe one of the few that know about it. Anyway, here's how it's done.

Create a music account on MySpace. When you fill out your band name, make sure to use a highly searched artist's name. For example, when I did this I used Fergie. So it looked something like Fergie & Brandon Roy.

When MySpacers search for these famous artists (and they do alot!), you pop up on the first page of search results and people will surely click on your profile. Simple isn't it?

Before doing this method, I was normally getting about 150 to 200 plays on my music player each day. After I changed my name and put Fergie in it, I was showing right under Fergie and was getting about 2,000 more plays per day. That means I was getting roughly over 2,000 more visitors to my profile a day! (some visit and don't listen to the music). Now it's up to you to figure out how to turn these profile visitors into website visitors without being flagged as a spammer. I would say the traffic is not targetted unless you're trying to drive traffic to some sort of music site or MySpace resource site. But then again, who says that Fergie fans aren't interested in making money online?

Be careful because I finally recieved a message from the MySpace team telling me to remove Fergie's name from my band name. It seems that Fergie might have complained to MySpace that I was stealing her traffic/fans. And of course MySpace is going to suck up to the big fish. They don't care about us little guys like they used to. So you'll probably need to do this in a more descrete way. Something like "I <3 [artist name here]". But do not upload their music on your MySpace music player. That's guaranteed bannage.

Very informative info. Great tip. I am fairly new to the game, but I do have a site in the works. Thanks for the help.
