Avoiding Work At Home Scams

E-mail
Tuesday, 05 February 2008

I've gotten a number of emails from readers that have came across a work at home site, but are wanting to know if it's a scam or if it's legit. Of course it's important to know such a thing before you go investing all your time into it right? Here is a list of sure signs that will tell you if a site is a scam or not.

Not all work at home scams ask you for money. Some scammers just want you to either promote them in a sneaky way to make them bigger, and some just want you to sign up to some of their advertisers and make them money.

1) The first and most simple way to know if a site is known for scamming is to do a google search. (i.e: SiteNameExample.com scam). If a huge list of search results popup with loads of angry people talking ugly about this site, then it's pretty obvious that you need to stay away from it. Now let's not forget that even legit sites get called a scam sometimes too. That's only because not every site can make everyone happy. So be careful not to throw away a good site.

2) Avoid any site or persons that guarantees you that you'll make crazy amounts of money a day with basically no work required. I'm talking $1,000s a day or even 100s. Working online takes work(That's why it's called working) and there is no such thing as getting rich quick unless you win the lottery, hit the jackpot at the casino or you have a rich uncle that dies and leaves you with his fortune.

3) Don't whip out that credit card everytime a clever marketer makes you see dollar signs.(this does not apply to GPT sites, dropshippers etc.) Employers don't ask you for money, you're supposed to get paid by them. Does Wal-Mart ask you for a sign up fee when you apply there? Pretty much all of the information that is being sold online today can also be found online for free just by simply using your favorite search engine. I like Google.

4) Be careful with random emails you get offering you a work at home opportunity. If you don't know this person or how they got your email, then it's obvious they got it to spam you. What kind of employers spam? There's been emails going around that are claiming to be PayPal just to get your information. They look insanely real too except the fact that PayPal never asks for personal information.

5) Watch out for anyone that offers to send you an upfront paycheck. The check will most likely be fake. Why though? Because you will cash the check, get your money(it will appear to have cleared at the time) then the scammer will tell you that the check was for the wrong amount and ask for money back. Not long after that you'll come to find out that the check bounced and you owe the bank money, plus you've already given the scammer money but he/she is long gone by then.

Sometimes I find it amusing to play with email scammers and carry them along as if they have you on the hook. You should try it. I'll post a conversation between me and a scammer on here soon.

Well that's all the tips I can squeeze out for now. I'll update this list as soon as I can.

General GPT tips

For those of you that use or plan to use GPT sites, I've put a list of tips together to help you make more money and to make the process more simple. The following guide is very important to follow.

Lets start with clearing your cookies in your browser - Clearing your cookies is important because it allows you to get more of your offers to "approve". Cookies are how you are tracked and if your browser is full of them from you browsing the internet, then it's harder to get approved for an offer you've done.
In Internet Explorer - Click tools>internt options>click delete under browsing history. Then a you'll see a pop-up..Click "delete cookies".
In Firefox - Click tools>clear private data>put a check box next to "cookies">the click "clear private data now".
In Opera - Click tools>delete private>a pop-up will come up. Click details and make sure you have "delete all cookies" checked. Then click "delete".

Now lets talk about creating a new email account - When you sign up to offers and surveys on GPT sites you usually always have to supply your email address. Creating a new email addres just for these sites is a must-have so that you don't recieve tons of junk mail in your main email account.Gmail is great free email service.

I like to use Firefox - The better web browser - From my experience, when I use Firefox on GPT sites it seems that I get more offers to approve. It's also faster and more secure than Internet Explorer(in my opinion). So navigate to Mozilla.com to download the latest version or just use the button below.

Another useful tool is having your own free private number to give to these websites - When filling out surveys you need to submit your phone number usally. The problem with that is that you will get never-ending calls from telemarketers. The solution to that problem is to give them a private voice mail number. LaserVoiceMail.com gives you your own free private number so you can avoid these annoying daily calls.

Wouldn't it be easy to fill out surveys with one click? An automatic form filler does exsist my friend! It's called RoboForm. This free tool allows you to fill out loads of information. Once you fill it all out with the info, then all you have to do is click one button and it will fill out a form instantly. This saves alot of time, and time is money.

The last and most important tip is do not cheat - GPT sites tend to attract alot of frauders. People wanting to make a quick buck even quicker. They do not realize that it's not possible to cheat and get by with it. The only thing they will get out of cheating is bannage. They will ban you in a heartbeat if you've screwed them over. So just don't cheat!

I hope you've found some of these tips useful. You can also check out the page on how to get more referrals which is also under "tips".

A.W. Surveys Scam

E-mail
Sunday, 03 February 2008

In this article, I'd like to discuss A.W. Surveys and tell you my experience with this survey site.
First of all, the site was quite nice as it has 7 good paying welcome surveys that pay from $4 to $6 for each quick website evaluation(they wasn't actually surveys). So once you complete those 7 website evaluations(surveys) then you have a quick $26! That was easy huh? Oh and they also give you $1.25 for each referral you send over to their site be scammed with you.

A.W. Surveys will only let you cash out once you have at least $75 in your account. Guess what? They don't send you anymore surveys. You made $26 from them and the rest of the money you make must come from referring people. If you Google aw surveys scam, you will find many posts from upset ex-members that were burned by the site. The weird thing is that A.W. Surveys has a very good traffic rank. How they manage to keep getting members to the site is beyond me.

So is A.W. Surveys a scam or not? Well they are notorious for cancelling poor innocent members accounts once they get close to their cashout point. They cancel it without warning and you may get a response saying that they suspected "fraud" or something along those lines. Surprisingly, they have paid a few members but it seems that they may be doing this only to keep people coming to the site. So lets say 3 out of 10 members get paid - Those 3 members are going to keep referring people plus A.W. Surveys made money from the other 7 people without having to pay them. My suggestion: Stay away!
